I began my accountancy career in 1995 in the Business Services department of one of the big four firms. During my nine years there I advised on the accountancy, tax and general business affairs of businesses ranging from sole traders through to multi-company groups.
In 2005 I set up my own practice specialising in serving owner-managed businesses and this became Evolve Tax & Accountancy LLP in 2007. I place great importance in maintaining regular contact with my clients. This allows me to keep up to date with their business and personal wealth affairs so I am able to offer relevant advice on a timely basis.
I trained in the Business Services group of a big four accountancy firm starting in farms department in 1999 before attending Reading University, 2000-2003. On my return in 2004 I worked for the Business Services department where I specialised in working on food producing clients. This ranged from small partnerships accounts preparation and tax advice to large multinational company audits.
Working in Business Services also gave me exposure to other businesses and I also have experience in the manufacturing and service sectors. I particularly enjoy advisory work whether that be new business start ups or producing management accounts for large businesses.
I also have significant experience in helping businesses simplify their accounting function to provide better and cheaper information for management and accountants alike.
I believe it is healthy to be directly involved at the 'coal-face of enterprise' and I do have business interests outside the practice, first with the family farm and recently in 2010 I put together a seven figure proposal to purchase my father-in-law's holiday cottage business. This keeps me openly involved in the pressures facing a modern businesses, and allows me to relate directly to clients.
After starting my career in general practice with a large firm of accountants in the south west, in 2002 I moved into the more specialist area of landed estates with a smaller but national firm.
Over the next five years I provided tax and accountancy services to a portfolio of clients ranging from sports related businesses to large landed estates consisting of agriculture, property, equestrian, shooting and diversified estate activities, and advised on all areas of tax and accountancy including, accounting software, VAT, capital gains tax and inheritance tax.
Since moving back to East Anglia in 2007 I have focused on providing comprehensive tax and accountancy services to rural and owner-managed businesses.
In February 2010 I joined up with Paul, Stuart and the team to form the Steeple Bumpstead office of Evolve Tax & Accountancy LLP.
As so many of the businesses I deal with are family businesses I place particular importance on building up a thorough understanding of the business and the owner’s or family’s circumstances at an early stage so that I can provide proactive advice and a service tailored to each individual client.
Having spent over 10 years with a national and regional practice in Cambridge, I joined Evolve Tax & Accountancy LLP in mid-2017. I am a Chartered Tax Adviser, specialising in advising individuals and their families on all tax planning matters.
My focus is to provide practical and clear advice to my clients, whilst ensuring all available tax reliefs are maximised.
